I Tried Making $1,000 with AI in 7 Days—Here’s What Happened

Let’s be real: everyone’s talking about using AI to make money in 2025. You’ve probably seen headlines like “Earn $$$ with ChatGPT” or “Passive income using AI tools!” So, I decided to put it to the test.

I gave myself 7 days, a laptop, Wi-Fi, and a challenge: Make $1,000 using AI. No fancy investments. No paid ads. Just creativity, hustle, and the right tools.

Here’s what happened—spoiler: it wasn’t as easy as TikTok makes it look, but it was eye-opening.

Day 1: Picking a Strategy

I started by researching what people are actually doing to make money with AI. Common ideas included:

  • Freelance writing with ChatGPT

  • Selling AI-generated art or logos

  • Creating and selling digital products

  • Offering AI-powered services (like social media content or email copy)

I decided to try 3 income streams:

  1. Freelance copywriting using ChatGPT

  2. Selling AI-generated designs via Etsy

  3. Building and selling a Notion template with AI help

Day 2-3: Hustling on Freelance Gigs

I set up a Fiverr gig for "AI-assisted blog writing" and offered 24-hour turnaround. Using ChatGPT, I knocked out a few samples, added some flair, and posted them.

To get traffic, I also reached out in a few Facebook and Reddit freelance groups.

Earnings: $120 (2 paid gigs from Reddit!)
Time spent: 5 hours total
Lesson: Clients don’t care how you write—as long as it’s good and fast.

Day 4: Etsy AI Art Shop

Next, I used Midjourney to generate a series of minimalist printable posters. Then I uploaded them to Etsy with SEO-optimized titles like:

“Neutral Aesthetic Printable Wall Art | Midjourney AI Abstract | Digital Download”

I listed 10 designs.

Earnings: $24 (2 sales at $12 each)
Time spent: 3 hours
Lesson: This can scale—but takes good keywords, good designs, and patience.

Day 5-6: Selling a Digital Product

Using ChatGPT and Notion, I created a productivity planner template titled:

“AI-Powered Notion Life Planner – Includes Smart Goals & Daily Prompts”

I listed it on Gumroad and shared it in a few productivity groups and on Twitter.

Earnings: $185 (from 9 sales)
Time spent: 4 hours
Lesson: Combining a real pain point (organization) with AI branding gets attention.

Day 7: Wrapping Up & Final Push

I bundled all my AI content and sent out some cold DMs offering a week of AI-powered content creation for small brands. One person bit—and paid $300 upfront for 5 posts and a blog.

Earnings: $300
Time spent: 3 hours
Lesson: Direct outreach still works—especially when you offer something unique.

Final Results: Did I Hit $1,000?

Total earnings: $629 in 7 days
Not quite $1,000—but a solid amount for a first run.
I spent around 15–18 hours total, which breaks down to about $35–40/hour.

What I Learned

  • AI is a tool, not a shortcut: The magic happens when you combine AI with real human skill—whether that’s design, writing, or selling.

  • Start fast, iterate faster: Test, tweak, and move quickly. Some things flopped, others unexpectedly worked.

  • Marketing > Creation: Making the thing is easy. Selling it takes 80% of the effort.

Would I Do It Again?

Absolutely. In fact, with better systems and more time, I believe this can become a full-time income stream. The power of AI is real—but it still takes creativity, hustle, and smart execution.
